Late to the Party
"You should have seen Luke."

Why, yes, I have started watching Supernatural. I'm up to the start of S5 now, which means I can read thenyxie fics. This is good.

I don't seem to watch "live" TV anymore. Time slots kept jumping around, and I'd lose episodes of shows that I wanted to watch, and I'm a stickler for seeing them in order. Sometime last winter, I gave up taping things altogether and just starting buying box sets. It was less frustrating in that I'd get to watch every episode, in order, whenever I felt like it, but more so because the series I really liked got cancelled after two seasons (Dead Like Me, Carnivale <-- OMG, what sadist TV exec cut that one off???), never had more than two seasons (Life on Mars), didn't release their latest seasons until right around the time that the next one was starting (House, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, Dexter), or just took FOREVER to release anything at all (is S2 of True Blood out YET?).

So then I started in on longer series that started (and possibly ended) sometime ago (Prison Break, Supernatural). I even went looking for fanfic for a couple (mostly flurblewig's Prison Break and Life on Mars fics). Does Carnivale fic even exist? Did anyone pick up the story and carry on? Please let the answer be yes...

I couldn't decide for the longest time if I was a Sam-girl or a Dean-girl, and then I decided that I didn't have to choose: I'll take both. At once. Thankyouverymuch.

Anyone still read this dead LJ?

I do! Although I've never seen Supernatural, so can't comment. Understand the decision to watch stuff on DVD though, it makes life a lot easier, as long as you can stand the wait.

Rec me some series, then! I only have 3/4 of S5 SPN to go, and then I'll need something new.

::smooch::

Doctor Who & Torchwood should keep you going for a long time. :)

I've considered Dr. Who, but I don't know where to start. I'm not going back 30 years! Where is the most recent beginning?

I did see some of Torchwood, by my interest seemed to peter out around the time that they killed... um, brain failure on names. The smarmy guy who was having an affair with the main character. Who was he again?

You'll want 'New Who', which began in 2005. It's conveniently called 'Series 1' and stars Christopher Eccleston. There's 4 series (that's seasons for you), and then a set of 'Specials'. S5 is currently airing. :)

Who was he again?
Owen? (The doctor.) This was in S2. Although Gwen isn't the main character.
desoto_hia873 From: desoto_hia873 Date: May 4th, 2010 09:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, Owen. That's him. Gwen was sort of the main character in the first episode, so I kind of still think of her that way. How many seasons are there now?
elisi From: elisi Date: May 5th, 2010 06:00 am (UTC) (Link)
Well you quit in S2, and after that there's only a 5 part mini series, 'Children of Earth', which is amazing and incredible and some of the best TV I've seen ever. It's almost like a different show - or rather, it's the show finally fulfilling all the potential that was never utilised before. Also, way dark. (But in a good way.)

I read it!

Yay, I'm not alone! Guess I'm gonna have to update what's left of my icons.

I'm reading; I've also been watching Supernatural, though since I haven't seen most of seasons 1-3 I think I'm a Castiel-girl.

I've always liked the rumpled angel. I'm at the very start of S5 where they're starting to have fun with his character, so now I'm really liking him.

Have you been writing SPN fics?
doyle_sb4 From: doyle_sb4 Date: May 5th, 2010 08:07 pm (UTC) (Link)
Nah - I'd like to, but with not having seen all of canon (and having read huge amounts of fic) I'm not confident of getting the voices down. Maybe after I've finished my PhD this summer I'll catch up.

OMG! Just today I was wondering where you were and how the puppy was. 0_o

Karma! :-)

"Puppy" Bella is fine. We've been doing lots of dog things together. Her latest pics are here: http://pets.webshots.com/album/562021704NuwlUe Newest ones are at the end.

Bella also has a "brother" named Nick now. (I never seem to get to pick the names...). Photos of him here: http://pets.webshots.com/album/575013658rzoVbU, and also in Bella's album.

How are you???
petzipellepingo From: petzipellepingo Date: May 4th, 2010 09:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, I was just thinking about you and Bella the other day.

is S2 of True Blood out YET?).

Yes, and Season Three starts in June.

Woohoo! More True Blood! I will have to pick it up ASAP. Of course, I'll have to rewatch S1 now because it's been so long that I can't remember anything.

Hai!!!! How are you??
petzipellepingo From: petzipellepingo Date: May 4th, 2010 10:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
Here's two mini-sodes to tantalize you for Season Three.

You're the second long time no see flist member to pop up today, it must be a thing. Yay!

Yes, I'm so glad to hear from you.

I am most definitely a Dean girl. Can't help it, those bad boys always attracted me.

I'm starting on *Fringe* this week, on NetFlix. I quit watching Supernatural after John ...well, after what happened to him.

I read your lj (even when you talk about Supernatural.)

I'm here! Yay, SPN newbies! I have been at it for a while, since early S4. Lots of amazing fic, and podfics out there. Come join the party!

I'll take both. At once. Thankyouverymuch.

Bibro is definitely the way to go ;)

You know, I'm pretty sure your experience is not unqiue. I don't know how anyone manages without a DVR these days, and with many series coming out on cable channels that may not be offered or with long gaps in production, it's almost like they want you to buy DVDs. Hmmmm...

I also ditto nwhepcat's comment about not just fic but also a swelling amount of podfic, which can be very convenient.

Hey! ::tacklehugs::

I kind of watch shows as they air, but on UK schedule and we record everything, so I'm always *way* behind everyone else. It makes trying to be currently-fannish very tricky when you don't like spoilers :-)

Box sets are fabulous things but I find it so hard to *stop* when they're all just sitting there waiting to tell me what happens next. Just One More Ep syndrome can lead to some very late nights, heh.

couldn't decide for the longest time if I was a Sam-girl or a Dean-girl, and then I decided that I didn't have to choose: I'll take both.

Ahahaha. Now there is some serious wisdom *g*

The early demise of Carnivale, like Firely, was major tragedy. If you find the fic that finishes the story, do link me :-)

OMG, what the world lost when Carnivale was cancelled...

I totally share your just-one-more-ep syndrome. That's why I'm on LJ at 4 am after catching up on House.

MISS YOU SO MUCH, FLURBLEWIG!!!!!!!!!

Are you on FB??????
